The Supporting Recovery from Family, Domestic and Sexual Violence Program provides trauma-informed long-term recovery care for victim-survivors of family, domestic and sexual violence.
The program aims to fill a gap in access to longer term mental health recovery services for victim survivors of family, domestic and sexual violence, and to work alongside existing services already in place providing short-term and crisis support.
South Western Sydney PHN is one of six PHNs across the country commissioning services as part of the $67 million Department of Health and Aged Care pilot program.
Local Care Teams
Local Care Teams (LCT) provide assessment, case management and care coordination, another key component of the Supporting Recovery program. SWSPHN is currently seeking a supplier to deliver the LCT component of the program in South Western Sydney.
What is family, domestic and sexual violence?
Family, domestic and sexual violence affects people of all ages and from all backgrounds.
It is when someone uses violence or manipulation to maintain power and control over someone they’re close to. It does not always involve physical violence.
Types of abuse can include physical violence, emotional abuse, sexual abuse and financial abuse.
It can inflict:
- physical injury
- psychological trauma
- mental ill-health
- emotional suffering
The impact of this trauma may be obvious immediately or it may have taken years for you to notice.
What supports are available through the program?
The program includes access to:
- a Local Care Team to coordinate and manage your recovery journey, connecting you with a range of other services such as legal, financial and housing
- trained psychologists, social workers and counsellors who specialise in providing trauma-informed and client-centred mental healthcare
- holistic, culturally appropriate mental health services which are available at no cost for a period up to two years
Who is the program for?
The program is open to people in South Western Sydney who have been impacted by family, domestic and sexual violence, and need help accessing services to support their long-term recovery and healing.
It is not for people in crisis.
Should an existing client find themself in crisis during the period they are engaged in the program, they will continue to be able to access support.
Services are initially being delivered from hubs based in the Campbelltown, Liverpool and Fairfield communities due to higher rates of family, domestic and sexual violence in those local government areas (LGAs).
However, services may be expanded across Bankstown, Camden, Wingecarribee and Wollondilly LGAs based on need and demand.
How to Access
You do not need a doctor’s referral. You can access the service by calling 1300 316 554 or going online and completing a self-referral. Your case manager can also complete this referral on your behalf.
