Universal Aftercare is a free support available in South Western Sydney to people who have recently attempted suicide or are experiencing a suicidal crisis.
South Western Sydney PHN funds the service under a bilateral agreement between the Australian and NSW governments. Neami National delivers the service in South Western Sydney.
This service is NOT designed for people at high or immediate risk of suicide. People at imminent risk should immediately visit their nearest emergency department or call Triple Zero (000).
About the service
Universal Aftercare is a non-clinical psychosocial support for people who are discharged from hospital after a suicide attempt or are experiencing a suicidal crisis.
The service recognises that timely support for individuals experiencing suicidal distress reduces the risk of future suicidal behaviour.
The service works with the clients in the short to medium-term to:
- improve mental wellbeing and capacity to self-manage distress
- build formal and informal supportive networks
- reduce risk of future suicidal crisis and/or suicide attempts
Eligibility
Universal Aftercare is available to people living in South Western Sydney following a suicide attempt or who identify as experiencing a suicidal crisis.
Accessing the service
People are referred to the service through South Western Sydney Local Health District services including hospital Emergency Departments, the Community Mental Health Emergency Team’s mental health services and the Suicide Prevention Outreach Team (SPOT).
