If you’re looking for reliable, local health information, visit South Western Sydney PHN’s (SWSPHN) new-look Health Resource Directory website.

Health Resource Directory is a collection of easy-to-read health factsheets which have been formulated under strict clinical guidelines. Each factsheet includes information about local support and health services to further empower local residents.

The original Health Resource Directory website was launched in 2017. It has been updated to make it more mobile-friendly and accessible to people for whom English is not their first language.

SWSPHN Chief Executive Officer, Dr Keith McDonald PhD, said the site had grown significantly with more factsheets and health condition pages added each month, so it was time for a change.

“We have worked closely with a web developer and a translation service to make sure health information is easy to access for everyone who visits the site,” he said.

The information you’ll find on the new Health Resource Directory website is relevant to anyone living in South Western Sydney who has been diagnosed with a health condition or who would like to find information about local health services after a diagnosis from their GP.

A local GP and the SWSPHN Community Advisory Committee review and endorse each factsheet.

The new site features 183 health conditions, 29 health procedures, 21 resources people can use to manage their health, and 27 pages of information about improving your overall health.

All of these have been published in English, Vietnamese, Simplified Chinese and Arabic, and will include audio versions in each language with more factsheets being added regularly.

SWSPHN is also currently working with local Aboriginal health services to develop culturally appropriate versions of the factsheets for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

Dr McDonald encouraged anyone living in South Western Sydney who would like to find local health information from a reliable source to visit the revamped website.

If you are looking for safe, reliable, locally relevant health information for your patients online, you can direct them to SWSPHN’s Health Resource Directory (HRD) where they’ll find reputable information on health conditions and health services.

The HRD website was launched in 2017, and has just been improved to make it more mobile-friendly and accessible for people of different abilities and cultural backgrounds.

It includes a wide range of easy-to-understand, localised factsheets and webpages with information about health conditions, medical procedures, local services and links to other resources.

HRD provides information about:

  • What is the health condition and how it may affect the patient
  • What the patient can expect from their GP
  • What the patient can do to help manage their condition
  • What local health services are available
  • Questions the patient may want to ask their GP
  • Other useful information or resources

HRD is for patients who have been diagnosed by their GP with a specific health condition and are searching the internet for trusted and timely information about their condition or the local services they may need after a diagnosis.

GPs can also use the website as a tool to help improve the health literacy of their patients.

The factsheets are adapted from the HealthPathways clinical content and can be printed from the ‘Patient Information’ sections on HealthPathways.

The new, improved website features 168 health conditions, 27 health procedures, 20 resources which patients can use to manage their health, and 27 pages of information about improving overall health.

All factsheets are published in English, Vietnamese, Simplified Chinese and Arabic, and include audio versions in each language. The health information webpages are currently being translated.

SWSPHN is also working with local Aboriginal health services to develop culturally appropriate information for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

HRD is regularly updated with new factsheets which have reviewed by local GPs and our Community Advisory Committee.
