NewGen Practice Nurse Training (NewGen) is designed for nurses who are new, returning, or transitioning to general practice within South Western Sydney. A dedicated initiative by South Western Sydney PHN, NewGen is your gateway to a fulfilling career in primary healthcare, directly contributing to enhanced patient wellbeing through proactive approaches in prevention, early intervention, and chronic condition self-management. NewGen Practice Nurse Training is FREE to eligible practice nurses.

Our dedicated Clinical and Quality Improvement team at South Western Sydney PHN is committed to your professional development, offering in-house mentoring tailored to nurture your growth within the practice nursing field.

Participants of the NewGen program will gain comprehensive knowledge and skills in key areas essential to general practice nursing, including:
- Immunisation
- cold chain/vaccine management
- Infection prevention, control, and sterilisation
- Chronic disease management
- Utilisation of registers, reminders, and recalls for patient care
- Preventive health screening and assessments
- Clinical procedures including spirometry, ECG, wound management, triage, and more.
Are you eligible?
To start the NewGen journey, you need to be employed in a general practice within the South Western Sydney local government areas, including Bankstown, Camden, Campbelltown, Fairfield, Liverpool, Wingecarribee, and Wollondilly.
