How to see your vaccination record

Mother showing her child her vaccination record on a mobile device

Staying on top of your vaccination record helps protect you, your family and our wider community, and it’s a simple way to be an Immunisation Hero. This page explains how to check whether your vaccinations, or your child’s, are up to date, how to download an official Immunisation History Statement, and what to do if something is missing. You can also ask your GP or practice nurse to check your record and print a copy for you.

Quick ways to check your record

How to get your immunisation history statements

My Health Record

If you have a My Health Record, you can view your immunisation history and download your statement from there. My Health Record automatically receives updates from the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR), so you’ll see the same official information your healthcare providers use.

Go to My Health Record

No internet or prefer paper

Ask your GP or practice nurse to print your statement.

Call the Australian Immunisation Register on 1800 653 809, 8am to 5pm weekdays to have them post one to you. This may take up to 14 days.

Checking your child’s record

If your child is under 14, you can view their statement through your own myGov, linked to your Medicare. If your child is 14 or older, they will need their own myGov to view the statement, or they can ask their vaccination provider to print it.

What your Immunisation History Statement shows

Your statement lists vaccinations recorded for you in the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR), a national system that records vaccines given in Australia.

It’s important to know that the AIR only became a whole-of-life register in 2016. Vaccinations given before this date - or given overseas - may not appear unless your doctor or nurse has entered them manually.

This means your online record might show only recent vaccines, such as your COVID-19 and flu shots, even if you’ve had other vaccines in the past. This doesn’t mean your older vaccines are lost - they just may not yet be recorded in the register.

If your record looks incomplete, bring any paper or overseas records you have to your GP or practice nurse so they can update the AIR for you.

You can use your Immunisation History Statement for child care and school enrolment, some jobs, and travel.

When you might need to show your Immunisation History Statement

You may be asked to show your statement for many everyday reasons, including:

  • Childcare, preschool or school enrolment – to confirm your child’s vaccinations are up to date under NSW requirements.
  • Work or study in health, aged care or early childhood settings – most employers and training organisations need proof of immunisation before you start.
  • Travel – some countries require evidence of specific vaccines for entry or visa applications.
  • Accessing certain government payments or family benefits – the Australian Government links some benefits to your child’s immunisation status.
  • Aged care visits or volunteer programs – to protect vulnerable residents and comply with infection control policies.
  • Personal health records – keeping a copy helps you and your GP plan catch-ups or future boosters.

If you’re unsure which vaccines are recommended for your age or circumstances, check Which vaccines do I need? or speak to your GP or practice nurse.

If something is missing or incorrect

If your vaccinations are not showing in your statement after 10 days, or information is incorrect, speak with your vaccination provider (GP, practice nurse, pharmacy or clinic) and ask them to upload or correct your record in the Australian Immunisation Register.

What is the National Immunisation Program (NIP)?

The NIP funds recommended vaccines at key life stages, which means eligible people can receive them free at participating providers. Schedules can change over time, and states may have local variations.

Vaccination tips

  • Bring your Medicare card to vaccination appointments, your record will update in AIR.
  • Keep your contact details current in myGov and Medicare, you will get reminders and statements.
  • Need a vaccine, or a catch-up plan, speak with your GP or practice nurse. Community pharmacies can also vaccinate for many conditions; fees may apply for non- National Immunisation Program vaccines.
  • New to Australia, or vaccinated overseas, bring any documents to your GP so your record can be added to Australian Immunisation Register.

Speak to your regular GP or practice nurse to keep your vaccination record up to date.
