Anglicare and Catholic Care Sydney’s Supporting Recovery program, which launched in April, is making significant strides in South Western Sydney.
The program offers patients free mental health support for up to two years.
Supporting Recovery is designed to assist individuals who have experienced family, domestic, or sexual violence by connecting them with mental health services which support long-term recovery.
Program highlights:
Since 1 April 2024:
- 180 total referrals from case managers, support workers, and self-referrals
- more than 80 active clients have been seen by therapists to date
- no current waitlist for Fairfield and Liverpool regions
Key features of the program:
- expert therapists: access to trained psychologists, counsellors and social workers specialising in trauma-informed, person-centred mental healthcare
- holistic and culturally-appropriate services: free mental health support for up to two years
Current service areas:
Currently, services are being delivered from hubs based in the Campbelltown, Liverpool and Fairfield communities, and may be expanded across Bankstown, Camden, Wingecarribee and Wollondilly Local Government Areas, based on need and demand.
Privacy assurance:
Service providers adhere to the Confidentiality and Admissibility provisions under the Family Law Act.
Information shared in family counselling is confidential with certain exceptions, such as protecting a child or complying with legal requirements.
If records are subpoenaed by a court, Supporting Recovery providers will review them before responding, and objections will be made as necessary under section 10E of the Family Law Act.
Supporting Recovery providers must object to the records being used as evidence unless the records contain information about child abuse, or the risk of child abuse to a person under the age of 18, that cannot be obtained from another source.
The Judge or Magistrate will then decide whether the records are admissible and can be used as evidence.
