What we do

Supporting Recovery for family, domestic and sexual violence

Supporting Recovery provides free, recovery support for victim-survivors of family, domestic and sexual violence.

Even after violence ends, its effects on health and well-being can linger for years. Many victim-survivors need long-term support to heal from trauma and rebuild their lives. Supporting Recovery complements crisis services, by providing long-term support.  The program helps people access services to support their recovery and healing journey.

Supporting Recovery provides free, culturally sensitive, holistic support to for up to two years per person.

The program aligns with the National Plan to End Violence Against Women and Children, addressing prevention, early intervention, response, and recovery.

Who is this program for?

Supporting Recovery is for people looking to recover from family, domestic, or sexual violence. The program is available to people who live in South Western Sydney.

What is family, domestic and sexual violence?

Family, domestic and sexual violence affects people of all ages and from all backgrounds. It is when someone uses violence or manipulation to maintain power and control over someone, they’re close to. It does not always involve physical violence.

Types of abuse can include physical violence, emotional abuse, sexual abuse and financial abuse. It can inflict:

  • physical injury
  • psychological trauma
  • mental ill-health
  • emotional suffering

The impact of this trauma may be obvious immediately or it may have taken years for you to notice.

Supporting Recovery comprises two services funded by SWSPHN – Local Care Team and Mental Health Support

Mental health support

Supporting Recovery includes mental health support specialising in trauma-informed care for up to two years. It complements short-term and crisis support. It connects people with experienced counsellors or mental health practitioners. These professionals use evidence-based therapies to support recovery.
