South Western Sydney PHN (SWSPHN) works in in partnership with the Cancer Institute NSW and BreastScreen NSW to increase breast screening participation rates in our region.
SWSPHN works with and supports GPs with:
- Support to implement recall and reminder systems for women due and overdue for screening via the National Breast Screening Register
- Providing appropriate resources
- Assistance with training and the use of POLAR GP to improve screening in practices
- Providing links to refer patients to women specific health centres for free cervical screening and breast checks, and to BreastScreen NSW’s mobile and fixed sites in the South Western Sydney.
While no referral is required for patients to use the BreastScreen NSW service, GPs are encouraged to refer their patients. Evidence shows a referral from a GP can be highly influential in a patient’s decision to participate in screening.
BreastScreen NSW recommend women aged 50 to 74 have a free breast screen every two years. Share this calendar with your patients:
