Nurses who perform wound management as part of their role at a general practice in South Western Sydney are invited to attend free face-to-face workshops to improve their knowledge and skills in the fundamentals of wound management.
Participants can choose either the morning or afternoon workshop on Tuesday, 10 November 2026 or either the morning or afternoon workshop on Tuesday, 11 May 2027 in the Education Room at SWSPHN’s office, level 2, 1 Bolger Street, Campbelltown.
On both dates:
- The morning workshops will be held from 8am for 8.30am start – 12.30pm
- The afternoon workshops will be held from 12.30pm for 1pm start – 5pm
The course covers the same content as the course held in March 2026. If you attended previously, there is no need to complete the course again.
SWSPHN will also repeat the June 2026 performing peripheral intravenous cannulation face-to-face event for nurses, on Thursday, 18 March 2027 (9am for 9.30am start – 2pm).
About the wound management workshop
The four-hour workshop is essential for all nurses who perform wound management as part of their role. It will improve participants’ knowledge and skills in the fundamentals of wound management. Participants will have the opportunity to develop confidence in activities which support best practice through hands-on exercises and demonstrations.
Participants will learn:
Wound cleansing and debridement
- recognise the importance of wound cleansing and debridement in optimising outcomes for the person with a wound
- identify and explaining the different types of wound cleansing and debridement and determining their appropriate use in clinical practice
- demonstrate wound cleansing and simple debridement techniques in a simulated environment
Wound dressings
- recognise the role of wound dressings in optimising outcomes for the person with a wound
- demonstrate the ability to select appropriate dressings based on patient needs, wound characteristics and dressing properties
- demonstrate an understanding of the performance of commonly used dressings perform in a simulated environment
Compression therapy
- recognise the role of compression therapy in optimising outcomes for the person with a wound
- recognise the different compression therapy systems and their advantages and limitations
- demonstrate the application of compression therapy
About the wound management trainer
Sue Templeton is a registered nurse who is currently endorsed as a Wound Specialist Nurse. Sue has been involved in wound management since 1987 and has worked in a specialised wound management role since 2002. Sue currently works for Resthaven Aged Care. She also has her own business through which she delivers education and clinical consultations. She has extensive experience in hospital and community sectors, managing patients with acute and chronic wounds.
Important information about registrations
The training is free for nurses working in general practice in South Western Sydney.
The training is valued at $75 per participant. All participants are required to pay a $25 refundable deposit via Mastercard or Visa to confirm their registration. SWSPHN will refund the deposit after participants have attended the training.
Please note, the deposit will be forfeited if you do not attend the event or if your registration is cancelled less than one month before the event.
