Ironing out anaemia – a hospital and primary care collaborative approach

Aim:
The goal is to present three perspectives: that of ambulatory care, a physician, and a GP and we aim to assess the prevalence of iron deficiency and anemia within the public hospital system and explore strategies to reduce the treatment burden. Additionally, we will discuss the development of treatment guidelines and plan to review progress over the next 12 months.

Learning outcomes:

  • Describe the common causes of iron deficiency and anaemia in 2025 and examine their impact on public hospital systems, including emergency and ambulatory care units.
  • Describe the prevalence of iron deficiency in the community and the role of public hospital systems, including emergency and ambulatory care units.
  • Describe how GPs can help reduce the burden of iron deficiency and anaemia treatment on public hospitals, and explore treatment options available in general practice.
